Bear Hunt Emergent Experience
The tamariki in the nursery at BestStart Rolleston have been really enjoying emergent experiences and this one was a real hit. We recently got a new mini tough tray and some wooden bear hunt characters. 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' has always been one of our favourite stories in the nursery so it was awesome to extend this interest and make it a hands on sensory experience.
At mat time Megan read the bear hunt story to all the children. We were lucky because Grace lent us her cool pop up version that is so cool and more interesting for the younger children. When we went outside after morning tea we had the tough tray waiting for the children to enjoy. We told the story once more but this time we moved the characters through all the different substrates. The children enjoyed moving the wooden figurines around as well.
As we moved the characters we also stopped to talk about the different substrates in the trough and the children had the opportunity to explore with their senses through the long wavey grass, river, mud, snowstorm and forest. All the excitement at the end was great when we ran the figurines through each area super fast and the children laughed with delight.
