BestStart Lambie Drive visits Puhinui School
In June, we had an excursion with a group of children to walk down to our local school, Puhinui School, where many of our preschool graduates have joined. The purpose of our excursion was to provide an opportunity for our tamariki to familiarise themselves with the school environment for a smoother transition when they start attending primary school. At BestStart Lambie Drive, we allow our tamariki to foster a great sense of belonging, perseverance, and which empowers them to be competent and confident learners.
The purpose of our excursion was to provide an opportunity for our tamariki to familiarise themselves with the school environment for a smoother transition when they start attending primary school. Transitions are an important part of life, and learning to manage different expectations, identities, and roles is an inherent aspect of development. Our curriculum; Te Whāriki, explains the central elements are continued throughout an individual’s lifetime, and new strands, representing new learning, continue to be added to the weaving.
This was an exciting experience for our tamariki as they got a glimpse into the ‘Big School’ environment and also gained a sense of familiarity with the environment, the teachers, and tamariki. Our tamariki were full of joy when they saw familiar faces of friends who were once at our centre, which gave them a sense of belonging and comfort. Our curious tamariki enjoyed exploring new spaces and resources, building friendships, and learning through a different lens.
