Bike Day
At Best Start Styx Mill, we recently celebrated Bike Day—a fun and educational event that had our tamariki excitedly taking to the track. This special day not only brought joy but also helped develop essential skills like balance, coordination, and confidence.
In the weeks leading up to the event, our teachers incorporated road safety and bike-related activities into the curriculum, ensuring that the children were well-prepared. On the big day, the centre was transformed into a mini-bike park with different zones, including an obstacle course and small ramps. It was heartwarming to see older children helping their younger friends, creating a strong sense of community.
Some parents and whānau joined in the celebration, cheering on the little riders and fostering a supportive environment. We have bikes in the centre every day, but for this special event tamariki were offered to bring their own bikes in, and could park them up along the fence when they weren't riding them, this was a great way to support children to develop their confidence around using larger bikes, that they might use at home.
Reflecting on the event, we’re reminded of the importance of providing diverse learning experiences. Bike Day was a great success, building not only physical skills but also confidence and independence in our tamariki. We’re already looking forward to our next bike day event and to see the continued growth of our young riders. Until next time, keep on pedaling!
