Celebrating Art Deco 2024
What a fabulous day we had as the tamariki (and kaiako) got into the swing of Art Deco 2024. Our annual Hawke's Bay celebration was unfortunately cancelled last year due to the devastation that Cyclone Gabrielle brought to our region but this year with sunny skies and lots of excitement we brought back the 1920s and 1930s style that Art Deco is so well known for around the world. Our centre was transformed with posters, fashion and flowers.
The tamariki arrived in their fabulous dress-ups and joined in the fun as we danced to the music of the 1920s and 1930s. Creativity was flowing as we made bow ties, fans, feather collages and beautiful headbands. But perhaps the highlight of the day was the "Box Car Derby" in which the children raced in painted apple boxes with names such as "The BestStart Bomber" and "The Art Deco Dodger".
Coming together to celebrate our beautiful region gave us all a sense of pride and there were lots of positive comments from children and their whānau about how lovely the centre looked and all the fun we had. We enjoy having special events such as this as we all work together to create such a wonderful learning environment for our tamariki.
