Throughout our centre we love to celebrate the many different cultures and their celebrations. Recently we celebrated Diwali. The children loved to learn what Diwali was and how it is Celebrated around the world. We learnt through reading books, singing songs and making some amazing Diwali art creations that Diwali is the celebration of light.

One of the highlights was making a very big Rangoli pattern outside. The children used colourful flowers and chalk to make their patterns. It was lovely to see such creativity, care and excitement from the children. One of parents made some beautiful Henna patterns on the children's hands and we ate some lovely India sweet treats made by one our families.

Celebrating the many different cultures in our centre creates a sense of belonging amongst our Tamariki and Whanau where they feel a sense of pride to share their culture with us. Children will often bring in things from home to share, sings songs or show us their cultural dance or outfits. Cultures are important to us at Montessori St Albans, especially in the Paua room (3-5year olds) where over the last few months we have been learning about the countries in our world and their own languages, customs and beliefs.
