Celebrating Mātariki at BestStart Kaikorai Valley Road
Here at BestStart Kaikorai Valley Road we believe in the intergration of learning and play; as children learn best through 'doing'. We believe that through opportunties to explore the world around them, children become active and involved learners.
Going on visits and having visitors supports learning across all the strands of our early childhood curriculum Te Whāriki. Visits and outings support our children's to explore the world beyond, assisting children's learning with other children, and encouraging children to develop comfort with a moderate degree of change whilst also supporting learning about culture.
We are lucky to have built strong relationships with our local schools, and this year as a part of our Mātariki celebrations we had the junior kapa haka group from our local primary school join us.
Our tamariki greeted our guests with a heart-felt waiata, welcoming them into our centre and after an amazing kapa haka performance from our local school, our children as whakahoki put on an energetic performance of some of the waiata and kanikani they had been learning as a part of our Mātariki festivities.
Our tamariki took so much pride in being a part of this cultural opportunity, proudly celebrating Māori culture with our local community whilst exploring a different platform for expression, experiencing success, gaining confidence through their own performance.
