Celebrating the festival of lights – Diwali
Nā kei te mohio koe ko wai koe, I anga mai koe i hea, kei te mohio koe. Kei te anga atu ki hea - If you know who you are and where you are from, then you will know where you are going.
At Beststart Remuera Road, we value and respect different cultures. That's why we embrace the opportunities to celebrate cultural events and encourage our whanau to join us. We are lucky enough to have families and Kaiako from diverse cultural backgrounds which helps us to know more about each other and celebrate the first-hand knowledge they bring to the centre. This month, we celebrated Diwali, the festival of lights.
Diwali is a great opportunity for nga tamariki to celebrate different cultures and it contributes to their understanding of multicultural communities they are a part of.
We have such a multicultural community at our centre and it’s so important for our tamariki that we acknowledge and celebrate their culture and heritage. It was great to see all our families come together. All our Tamariki, Kaiako & whanau looked fabulous in their bright and colourful outfits.
We did have a huge whanau involvement in the celebration. All the parents brought different cultural food to share with other families. Kāhore taku toa i te toa takitahi, he toa takitini - We cannot succeed without the support of those around us.
