Chuck on a hard hat and come join us!
We take construction pretty seriously at South Road! Our Toddler and Preschool children share our outdoor space and have been busy at work constructing car ramps, sandpit extensions and a few ice-cream shops, so with the wet and wild weather the last few weeks - we’ve moved our construction site inside!
There’s a fair bit of construction happening in our town, so we’ve donned the hard hats and vests, checked the wall for photo updates, and drawn up some plans to help them move construction along a bit quicker! Blocks and construction experiences offer a wealth of benefits for toddlers and preschoolers, fostering both cognitive and social development. Engaging with blocks encourages fine motor skills as children grasp, stack, and balance pieces, enhancing their hand-eye coordination.
Additionally, these activities promote problem-solving and critical thinking as they experiment with different structures and designs. Socially, cooperative building projects encourage teamwork, communication, and sharing, helping children develop essential oral communication skills. Through imaginative play, children also explore concepts of math and physics, such as symmetry and gravity, laying the groundwork for more complex learning in the future.
We are excited to see what our little engineers, builders, surveyors and site managers create in this space!
