Come sing with us!
We have been very blessed to have one of our parents come in with us and do some singing with us in our centre. We encourage parental involvement as this promotes a sense of belonging, cultural enrichment and positive relationships whilst also enhancing children's well being, sense of belonging and musical, social and emotional development.
There are many benefits to sharing singing experiences with parents ,teachers and peers within the center environment. One of our priorities for learning is being kind, in this scenario children are having this role modelled to them as part of our whānau come in and share their time and talent with us. Teachers are then able to help children make connections between what they are seeing and doing and how this relates to our priorities.
Children are also able to share in parents passions and enthusiasm as the parent role models their own enjoyment of the experience and this can inspire children to show an interest in new activities.
Singing with parents and whānau also encourages children's language development. As children engage in the fun and passionate activity, singing and dancing, they are also exposed to a range of language, structures and rhythms. Songs contain rich language which is assisted by the rhythmic and repetitive nature of the songs which aids and assists in language acquisition, memory development - and plain old fun!
