Cultural Day and Parent Teacher interviews at BestStart Marne Street
This month at BestStart Marne Street we celebrated the wide range of cultures that make up our whanau. We asked families to bring a plate to share that represented their culture which can be linked to race or country, or a favourite activity such as being a sporting a family. We had a wonderful turnout and some great conversations were had as we discussed cultural aspirations for each child.
Parents were able to book in times to sit with their children's key teacher to have a more indepth discussion about their child's learning. Parents, children, siblings, and grandparents had a wonderful evening celebrating the unique cultures that make up Best Start Marne street.
This was one of our actions we had planned to further focus on linking and valuing culture in our daily life, learning plans, and environment. We come together for this annual celebration and it is a favourite amongst BestStart Families.
These celebrations give us unhurried time to further build bonds and communication between kaiako, tamariki, and their wider families. From the information gathered from this evening together, kaiako will help families design their own child's cultural page for their learning portfolio kept in centre for children to visit as they wish. Here at Best Start Marne Street we are a big family, that learn together and grow together.
