Dinosaur Exhibit
Our morning started with a buzz of excitement as a massive trailer pulled up and we were about to embark on a prehistoric journey. I was so thrilled to observe the awe on the children's faces as curators from the dinosaur exhibit began to offload the mysterious boxes and crates. As the lids popped open and real dinosaur bones emerged to adorn the display tables, I couldn't help but share in the children's wonder.
Witnessing the children gently touching the ancient artefacts was like watching little paleontologists at work. I made mental notes of their inquisitive expressions; it was clear their connection to the past was sparking rich imaginative play and a deeper understanding of history. The exhibit was not just about observing; it was interactive too.
The children stood by a massive T rex footprint—gazing down, comparing it to their own tiny feet. The size comparison alone was enough to fill their minds with questions and ponder how such creatures could have roamed the same earth we walk on today. As the visit drew to a close with a roar-inducing group photo, I reflected on how this visit had been a dynamic testament to the holistic development of our tamariki.
They not only learned about the distant past but were also encouraged in their oral language skills, sharing their thoughts and learning with each other. Looking ahead, I plan to build on this experience by introducing fossil-inspired art projects to further develop fine motor skills and creativity.
Today's adventure was indeed one for the BestStart Te Heuheu St Kindy books—one that will undoubtedly inspire countless more days of learning and discovery.
