Exploring Carpentry
Carpentry-what comes to our mind when we talk about Carpentry: hammers and nails, but after having some deep discussions we can say Carpentry is derived from Construction as it's one of the parts.
After noticing the curiosity and excitement of the tamariki at BestStart Highfield in the Whare Tipu room, we as kaiako began planning different ways to provide engaging and fun experiences for our tamariki so that they could improve the skills needed to explore the field of Carpentry. We started by building separate construction areas where the tamariki had the opportunity to create amazing masterpieces with the blocks, tighten and loosen bolts on wooden boards, and become familiar with other carpentry tools through pictures and resources.
While exploring the carpentry and construction areas, tamariki are expanding their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. It also enhances their vocabulary as they explore the different korero around their constructions and experiences. While working in groups and engaging with each other, our tamariki develop their social skills through which they extend friendship, sharing as well as their caring nature. To enhance their interest further, we added Playdough to our Construction play.
Tamariki were given open-ended experiences in which they were loading the construction trucks with the playdough to take to their construction sites. What a Great way of play we witness from our tamariki!!!
