Playdoh is an amazing resource for Tamariki of all ages to explore as it enhances both our fine and gross motor development. The Pepi in the Fantail room have been enjoying squishing the playdoh hard in their fist and watching as it squeezes out both ends, as well as working on their hand-eye co-ordination as they use the rolling pins to create patterns in the playdoh as they flatten it out.

Having our Kaiako Jackie sitting with the Pepi creates opportunity to model not only how to roll the playdoh to create different shapes but also to use the resources provided such as the cutters in the way they are intended. Playdoh also creates opportunities to enhance vocabulary and communication skills by using songs as a way to interact, for example making and singing about the 5 cupcakes in a bakers shop round and fat with a cherry on the top, with this we also start implementing basic maths and counting skills.

Jackie, uses instructional repetition for the tamariki she is working with to follow simple instructions such as 'Pat the playdoh flat' these comprehension skills are important to be able to follow instructions both at home and within the centre environment, But the most important part is the determination and concentration the Pepi show as they play and have fun, with large smiles on their face they are often showing the Kaiako near by the amazing creations they have made.
