Fire fighters come to visit BestStart Roydvale
Regularly we practice how to be safe in the event of an emergency at Beststart Roydvale. The tamariki are fantastic at being turtles and moving swiftly but safely. After a recent practice fire drill the tamariki were able to express their knowledge about who we call - the fire fighters.
Last month we had a quick planned visit from Ilam fire station to tell us a little about what they do! They showed us how the get dressed super fast when there is a call out, they talked with the tamariki about what number to ring if there is a fire and what to do if we see a fire. They were so impressed with the answers given by our clever tamariki!
We would have loved them to stay longer but they got called out as we went outside to see the truck - with big waves and smiles the tamariki waved them off as they headed away. This prompted a huge interest around our local fire service and what they do - our Roydvale tamariki have been role playing being the fire service together - including showing how quickly they can come together getting their "gear" on.
We wanted to say a huge Thank you to our local Ilam fire station for supporting and extending this interest for our preschool community.
