To support tamariki’s growth and development, BestStart Meadowbank places a strong emphasis on healthy eating and regular physical activity. We encourage tamariki to develop healthy lifestyle habits from an early age, aligning with the Wellbeing strand of Te Whāriki, which focuses on fostering the health and wellbeing of every child.

We provide a balanced menu approved by Healthy Heart, reviewed yearly to ensure the tamariki receive the necessary nutrition. With the help of our parent, Sergio, we have created a vibrant little fruit and vegetable garden where we have planted strawberries and a variety of vegetables. Tamariki are learning how to care for these plants and observe their growth. This hands-on experience allows them to enjoy gardening, understand where food comes from, and appreciate it even more.

In addition, we offer various activities centred around healthy eating, such as reading books about food, creating fruit-themed art, making delicious recipes, and participating in Lunchbox Day. These activities help tamariki become more aware of healthy food choices and understand the importance of a nutritious diet.

Physical activity is another essential component of a healthy lifestyle. We provide a wide range of activities, including running, jumping, climbing, ball games, bike riding, and music and movement. These activities develop tamariki’s gross and fine motor skills, enhancing their coordination, balance, and confidence.

We are committed to helping tamariki establish healthy eating and exercise habits. This dedication not only supports their wellbeing now but also lays the foundation for a lifetime of health and happiness.
