Heritage Day!
In South Africa, they have the most beautiful public holiday known as Heritage Day. This is a multicultural day that celebrates the culture and diversity of beliefs and traditions, in the wider context of a nation that belongs to all its people.
The term “rainbow nation” is used to describe South Africa’s diverse cultures, customs, traditions, histories, and languages. Heritage Day is a celebration of this variety. Thus, we thought it a great decision to bring this custom to our center seeing as though we have a beautiful diversity of cultures here. We would like to know our whanau and what they believe is important for their family.
We would like to hold onto each one's traditions and keep their roots strong while still embracing the beautiful land which we've moved to and learning about their customs too. Today we all came together and celebrated by sharing in song, dance, food, and most importantly culture.
What a beautiful way to celebrate whanaungatanga! Thank you, whanau, for allowing us into your "home", for sharing your traditions, and for leaving a piece of you that will forever be imprinted in our hearts and homes.
