To assist with more successful and positive drop-offs for your tamariki, we have put together a few tips and tricks for you, as parents and/or whanau to use to assist us and you, with this transition time.

  • Find an activity of interest – Encourage your child/children to find something they enjoy. Have these conversations at home about what they have done that day, what they have enjoyed, then implement this when arriving in the mornings. If this is not successful, find a trusted Kaiako to assist with the hand over.
  • Speedy drop off – We know as parents, you want to see your child happy and content when you leave them in our care, the best advice we can give is make it a speedy drop off. Through observations, we have found that the quicker the transition, the quicker the settling process for your child. We know that sometimes you may have the time to stay and play, however it makes it a lot more difficult for your child to part with you and watch as you leave.
  • Find a trusted Kaiako – Does your child have a favourite teacher? Find this teacher, or approach any of our other amazing Kaiako to help with settling. We are always happy to watch and wave out the window with your child!
  • Communication – Please ensure your child is aware you are leaving, and coming back later. We do not encourage ‘sneaking off’ while your child is engaged and busy, because they will shortly notice and will wonder where you have gone.
  • Forgotten messages – If you have said goodbye to your child and left the centre, please resist from coming back in. If you have any questions, or want to pass some information on to us Kaiako, please do so in the reception area and/or out of sight from your child, you could even ring or text the centre. Your child may still be in the settling process and may become unsettled seeing and parting from you again.
