This year in 2024, we as a team at BestStart Dixon Heights are focusing heavily on our Intentional Teaching Practices. We have come to realise that we are good at our Intentional Teaching practices, however, we want to improve on this to ensure we are giving the best learning outcomes for our tamariki (children).

Intentional Teaching is described as: “constantly thinking about what you are doing as a teacher and how it will support or enable children’s development and learning". This is supported in our centre this year by our thoughts, actions, and our practice around Intentional Teaching.

Our Internal Evaluation and our new “Set for School” transition program supports these practices, along with making links to our early childhood curriculum documents. We as a team have had meetings, gained research, and mind-mapped what we feel is important for our tamariki, their interests, and how we can best support these interests.

So far, our three rooms have made an amazing start to how we support our tamariki through our intentional teaching practices. The photos show that a lot more thought has gone into our practice and how it links to our curriculum. We will continue on this journey for all of 2024 and document our progress through internal evaluation and making these visible in our rooms daily.
