Intergenerational Play

1

At BestStart Leeds Street, we love connecting with our community. One way we have fostered this vision over the past year is with the introduction of our Intergenerational play group hosted at the local Community Centre. The synergy between the enthusiastic young tamariki and the seasoned seniors has cultivated a unique environment of shared experiences and mutual learning. The tamariki, through interacting with the elderly, are not only developing empathy and respect but also gaining valuable insights into history and traditions.

On the other hand, the seniors find joy and renewed purpose as they engage with the exuberance of youth. This intergenerational exchange fosters a sense of community that goes beyond age, creating a rich tapestry of connections and understanding. The bonds formed during these sessions extend beyond the walls of the Community Centre, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of both the young and the old, enriching the entire community in the process.

Our Intergenerational play group has proven to be transformative towards making connections with our community, as well as providing many wonderful learning benefits for our tamariki. Intergenerational exchange becomes a living history lesson, bridging the gap between generations and creating a vibrant, supportive community fabric.

The bonds formed during these play sessions often ripple into other facets of community life, fostering a spirit of inclusivity and understanding. As the young and old continue to learn from one another, the Community Centre transforms into a dynamic hub where the echoes of shared stories and experiences resonate, fostering a sense of unity that benefits the entire community.
