Kei Wareware Tātou | Lest We Forget
April 25th is a special day for New Zealand and Australia as we remember our courageous ANZAC troops. To commemorate and show our respect, our brave group of young tamariki made the trek to visit the Fields of Remembrance set up on the ANZAC Green.
Our tamariki were amazed at the sight of the statue of an ANZAC soldier standing tall overlooking Te Awamutu. Placing a wreath made by one of our talented kaiako, our tamariki expressed their wonder and curiosity through exclamations of “wow” as they waved to the soldier and explored the rows of crosses representing our fallen soldiers.
Noticing the red poppies throughout the field our tamariki were making connections between the ANZAC poppies in the community and the poppies we have been creating in the centre. Here at BestStart Te Awamutu we are part of a close-knit community. Through these excursions and special events, our tamariki are fostering their connections with their local community, nurturing their sense of belonging as they develop their voice in their community.
As we visit the Fields of Remembrance our tamariki are learning about a significant part of New Zealand history and how our small community remembers our brave soldiers. After showing our respect our tamariki waved goodbye to the tall soldier and we began our journey back to the centre to continue our commemoration of our ANZACs.
