Ko Pirongia te maunga
At BestStart Te Awamutu we been discovering more about our local culture through story-telling. One local legend the centre has been exploring is the Patupaiarehe of Pirongia.
Exploring such stories supports tamariki to develop their knowledge and understanding of their world through cultural connections to our land. At BestStart Te Awamutu we love revisiting our learning in context throughout our day, like referring to Mt Pirongia when playing outside.
Today our tamariki recreated this special mountain in the sandpit. Working collaboratively as a team to build the mighty mountain. They worked tirelessly shovelling sand onto a large mound, working together to create a solid foundation. As the mountain began to reach amazing heights, the tamariki began discussing ways to decorate and make it visually striking.
Their imaginations soared as they revisited their learning and the story of the Patupaiarehe of Pirongia
