Making a Splash at BestStart Fendalton
At our centre, we understand that learning can happen anywhere, anytime and in any weather. Tamariki are encouraged to lead their own learning, to direct their own play and to make their own choices in an environment that encourages safe risk-taking. We encourage tamariki to run around outside in the fresh air, to experience water play and to have fun in the sandpit.
In the 1970s, Alfred Wainwright said "There is no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing". We enthusiastically embrace this philosophy and support tamariki to explore their local environment and communities, whatever the weather! To make sure that all tamariki were able to participate in our excursion programme, we bought a range of wet weather gear. This means that we have removed the barriers to learning and play and children are now able to explore, walk, and visit, no matter whether it is sunny, chilly or rainy.
Fendalton Future Explorers have weekly trips and we know that over time, they are becoming increasingly capable of making connections between people, places and things in their world. They are also taking an interest and having fun learning about the wider, unfamiliar world
