Making Friendships Through Exploring!
Our nursery tamariki have enjoyed making new friendships as they explore their outdoor environment. Our kaiako noticed that our tamariki really love exploring the outdoors, even on the cooler days. During their observations, they looked at what it is the tamariki bring outdoors and how this can be included in their set up's every day. Construction, climbing and group work was highlighted.
With this knowledge, our kaiako set up a few play spaces where tamariki can freely climb and explore, where they can build and problem solve together, and where they can laugh and explore their spatial awareness individually and as a team. Our tamariki have really loved climbing up the boxes and sliding down, taking turns and cheering their friends on. They love hanging out on our climbing bridge and laughing away together.
Making friends can help children in many ways:
- They can learn how to share, take turns and co-operate with others
- They can develop communication skills
- They can learn about different emotions,
- They can feel more confident and secure in themselves
- And they can have loads of fun together!
Our Vision and Philosophy is centred around belonging and finding friendships within our centre. It is lovely to see friendships soar!
