Messy Play Fun!
At BestStart Glenfield, we believe that tamariki learn best through play! Sometimes this play can get messy, but it's all part of the learning process. When tamariki engage in messy play, they enable themselves to discover more about different materials and textures. It is a great opportunity for them to explore with their senses and further develop their fine motor skills. It also allows them to get creative, experiment, and investigate!
"He tamaiti, he tamaiti, he tamaiti" is a Māori proverb that translates to "A child, a child, a child." This proverb reinforces the idea that allowing children the freedom to explore and express themselves is essential for their growth and development. Each child's unique journey is valuable, and through play, they discover their individuality and creativity.
We have a wide range of messy play recipes for our tamariki to explore and discover. Here are just a few recipes that we use:
Gloop: 4 cups cornflour, 2 cups water, and a few drops of food colouring. Mix together.
Cloud Dough: 5 cups flour, 1 cup oil (you can also add a little bit of cocoa to make it look like dirt). Mix together.
Slime: 3 tablespoons psyllium husk powder, 2 cups water, food colouring. Mix together, microwave for 3 minutes, then stir, repeating this process 3 times.
