Montessori Otumoetai Mini Olympics
In light of the 2024 Olympics in Paris, we held our very own mini Olympics here at Montessori Otumoetai!
We started by having our very own opening ceremony. We invited our parents and whanau to come and watch as the tamariki celebrated their countries. The tamariki waved the national flags to their country's national anthems. We are a very multicultural community here at Montessori Otumoetai, with 16 different countries to celebrate!
How amazing and wonderful it was to celebrate different music, flags and languages from around the world. The tamariki participated in many different Olympic events such as long jump, shot put, sprints, hurdles, rhythmic gymnastics and weight lifting over the course of the Olympics.
They all did a fantastic job with participating and giving each sporting event a go. They displayed wonderful skills of unity and sportsmanship along the way. We finished our mini Olympics by holding a closing ceremony with our parents and whanau. Waving their home country's flags, they walked with their children to the sound of their national anthems. Parents and whanau also made food from their country to share at morning tea. Everyone got to taste some delicious food from around the world.
Having our own mini Olympics not only enriched our learning of the countries in our world and sporting events but brought us closer as a community, acknowledging and supporting our cultural heritages.
