Music With Uncle Troy!
Every Friday at BestStart Flatbush School Road, we have a music session with our teacher, Troy. The children call this special time 'music with Uncle Troy'.
During this time, Teacher Troy moves around to all three rooms to facilitate small group music sessions with children playing instruments together. This is a special time when children learn to express their feelings and indulge their imagination through voice, musical instruments and/or body movement.
At BestStart Flatbush School Road, we use singing as a wonderful tool to extend children’s language in a fun way. Uncle Troy plays children's favourite songs using his guitar and nursery rhymes for children to sing along. Songs with actions are always popular and are great ways to challenge children's coordination and motor skills. Children learn to recognise and enjoy sounds, instruments, and a variety of music.
It's also a great way for children to feel a sense of belonging and pride in their culture. It’s a wonderful way to learn about and participate in the music of other cultures. Through group participation, children develop the dispositions and skills of cooperation and communication. Overall, music is a great vehicle for learning and development.
Uncle Troy's music session supports children’s intellectual, imaginative, emotional, social, and cultural growth. They are enjoyable, and soothing and help develop listening skills, concentration, coordination, cooperation, communication, and memory, as well as being a valuable resource for creativity. With so much potential for learning and development, it’s no wonder they’re so popular!
