Nature & Science exploration!
Our Tawaki learners have been enjoying exploring their natural environment through learning about the importance of our environment in Aotearoa.
They have especially loved learning about different animals and their habitats and re-creating these in their classroom space. During the past few weeks, our kaiako supported the tamariki in creating a frog swamp, an under-the-sea exhibition, a jungle habitat, and artworks created using materials from our natural environment.
Our tamariki have been exploring a lot of their natural environment where they have been given the opportunity to collaborate with each other to develop their own unique understanding of the New Zealand environment. We have been focusing on our Atua recently and it has opened up some amazing opportunities to learn about the different environments they each look after.
With a focus on Tanemahuta, our tamariki got to create their own Forrest portrait, putty swamp, and even a zoo for all of our animals to live in like Orana Park. We have recently turned our focus, to Tangaroa (God of the sea) which our tamariki have been very excited to explore using water play and even some science and nature play, where they got the opportunity to do some fishing in our Moana.
