Nau Mai Haere Mai Tui
Nga tamariki are very excited to show you the Tui that regularly visit our nectar feeder. We made/ put together the feeder with Mr Kevin back during Matariki. We took turns to screw the feeder together and then to make the sugar water. Then we waited and waited. The little wax eyes found it very quickly but it was about 2 week before the Tui found it.
Now we have multiple visits from them in a day, sometimes 2 at once and have to fill the feeder daily. We even started a tally of how many Tui visited and are onto our second page! We never get bored of watching these beautiful birds and seeing the colours on their feathers. Through this experience tamariki were able to not only build on their fine motor skills with the building of the feeder but also their communication and collaboration skills as we all worked together, our early literacy with counting the Tui that visit daily and also making us kaitiaki of the land as we care for the wild life within it.
We are very excited to see what Summer has to offer with the birds and wildlife around our Centre.
