October Holiday Programme
Tena Koutou Katoa. In the October school holidays we planned a program based on the seasons, the center values and philosophy and Te Ao Maori.
In the first week of the holidays, we planned learning experiences such as:
- Step-tember, which included an excursion, counting our steps and certificates for the participants. Planting day and nature inspired art works. We brought in a large log and other natural resources found by a lake and the children used charcoal to create their masterpieces.
- Wacky Wednesday: We dressed up and had a Wacky fun day.
- Native bird day: Lots of bird identification and spotting.
- Pet day: We encouraged our families to bring in photos of their beloved pets, which are still on the wall.
Week Two included:
- Fijian cultural day: Fijian cultural dress ups, music and fun. E Waka, stories of heroism.
- Space discovery day: Lots of space related artwork, books, discovery and learning.
- Design and build: A construction day, including box construction and carpentry.
- Finally, a Water play day, with lots of water fun.
These learning experiences linked into our centre values and philosophy by showing: Sustainability: Supporting tamariki to develop a love of nature and care for their natural world. Relationships: Relating to each other, whanau, kaiako, tamariki and community. Best Start Te Whariki: Our values: Whanaungatanga: Relationships and whanau. Kaitaikitanga: Responsibility and stewardship. Manaakitanga: inclusive practice, aroha, kindness and respect. Whakatoi: confidence, joy and happiness.
