Our Trip to Bunnings!
Our preschool classes have recently visited Bunnings to learn how to care for their environment and to develop a sense of responsibility for the living world. At the centre the children have been learning about gardening and planting so we bought some grass seeds to all make individual grass heads.
Whilst at Bunnings the tamariki had the opportunity to watch the forklift trucks and cherry pickers in action. This is a huge interest for our tamariki with being in an industrial area. Trips out in our local community provide learning opportunities for open-ended interactions, spontaneity, exploration, discovery, risk-taking, and connection with nature. Best Start Silverdale is going to make our trips to Bunnings a regular excursion and we have organised times with the DIY and activity coordinator Diane to have carpentry sessions with her.
Our children's curious minds will have the ability to inquire, research, explore, and modify working theories. Watch this space for some carpentry creativity where the tamariki will be making bird feed tables, toy trucks, tool boxes, planter pots, and an upcoming Matariki activity. We will also be having gardening sessions. It is wonderful seeing our tamariki make relationships, and learn with and alongside others and in their community.
