Preschool Construction
In the preschool room the children have been showing a huge interest in construction. Using a range of equipment the children have been working together (which is supporting the skills at turn taking and sharing), developing their fine motors and level of concentration. Construction play is a rich learning experience that supports children's cognitive, social-emotional, and physical development while nurturing their creativity and imagination.
By incorporating tools, equipment, and imaginative elements, teachers have been thinking creatively at what resources they can offer/set up to create engaging and enriching opportunities for children to explore the world of construction. The children are also learning about spatial awareness and what’s in their surroundings, so that they are able to keep themselves safe from harm and others.
New resources and dress-up costumes have been purchased so the children are able to feel the real part of being a construction worker, the teachers are also planning a visit to our local Mitre 10 to purchase some new resources. When the children have finished creating, they love to share their creations with the teachers and their peers. Completing a construction project can give children a sense of pride and accomplishment, boosting their self-confidence and self-esteem. The teachers have also been seeing new friendships formed as the children work together, along with children developing their conversational skills with others.
