Our youngest tamariki love exploring their senses through a variety of sensory provocations. Sensory play is a concept that can be easily integrated into our everyday life and is a fun way to engage with our kids. Sensory play is any activity that stimulates the five senses of a child. These are touch, smell, taste, sight, and hearing.

Sensory play also includes any activity that makes a child move or practice balancing. The definition of sensory play can be applied to a wide variety of age-appropriate activities for babies and toddlers. We love experimenting with different resources and textures, so that we are developing our sense of touch, as welll as our sense of sight.

During these activities, our kaiako are actively participating and encouraging our taariki to dig in and make the most of each experience. We make the most of the sunshine and bring these experiences outside too. There are so many benefits for our tamariki to explore both inside and outside. Our kaiako make a team effort to engage our tamariki, so that they can experience an environment that challenges their curiosity.

Sensory play benefits include brain development, creating stronger connections to sensory information, increased hand-eye coordination, and bonding time with their kaiako.
