Set for School - life long learning
Set for School is a BestStart framework to support your child and prepare them for primary school and further learning. Set for School considers the unique needs of your child, family/whānau and the school they will attend. It focuses on four areas that are key to your child growing up to be a competent and confident learner.
Set for School is grounded in research as well as feedback from schools, so we know we’re supporting your child to reach their potential. Some key teaching aspects Kauri kaiako are supporting all tamariki with are:
- social and emotional competence
- working in small groups, sharing ideas and taking turns
- familiarity of numbers and letters, particularly working towards recognising letters of their name
- physical development - keeping mind and body active
Te Whariki learning outcomes and NZ School Curriculum key competencies all link into Set for School. All Kaiako use intentional teaching and specific curriculum design to provide a range of learning opportunities to support each child's learning - this means teaching and supporting where a child is at individually, and their learning goals are led by their parents and whānau.

Te Whariki:
- Mana Atua (Well-being): Managing themselves and expressing their feelings and needs | te whakahua whakaaro.
- Mana tangata (Contribution): Recognising and appreciating their own ability to learn | te rangatiratanga.
- Nz School Curriculum - Managing Self aligns with well-being. Students have a “can-do” attitude, and see themselves as capable learners. Students who manage themselves are enterprising, resourceful, reliable, and resilient.
