Our Waita team had a lovely evening about Set for School. They had set up the environment to showcase how children learn through play. Each area had an information board which stated the skills they learn while playing and how they will use these skills at school.

It was great to see how we as educators can help children learn vital skills which will help to set them for school. We used our Te Whariki strands and linked them to our primary school curriculum. The parents are amazed to see the similarities between each curriculum. Our teachers even have a set for school display within the classroom. Children are able to explain to their parents what this display is for and how they will be set for school when they achieve all of those skills.

Our team when to four different local schools and gathered information about what skills are important to them. These skills have been displayed and linked to our Te whariki strands. Each child's photo is on a particular skills and as they achieve this skill they love onto the next one. As soon as they have achieved all the skills, they become school ready. Please view of photos to see how we create an environment where children gain all the skills they need for their new adventure at school.
