Sketching Nature at BestStart Botany Road
Here at BestStart Botany Road, we are so lucky to have a cherry tree blossom in our backyard. This time each year, the tree blossoms to let us know that spring is on the way, the sweet nectar in the blossoms also attracts Tui. Tamariki are very interested in learning about the Tui so we provided them with some binoculars for them to observe them more closely.
We also provided tamariki with pencils and paper so that they could draw the Tui and other things that they could see. Some tamariki then chose to create their own Tui using a glue gun, some feathers, and other materials. This learning experience was led by tamariki and connected them to Papatūānuku and taiao.
Tamariki showed their curiosity to explore the world around them and they are developing their ideas and memories around this. When they see the cherry blossoms or Tui again they will be able to recall what they have learned and apply it to what they see. Here at Botany Road, we are lucky to have established trees in our playground which allows us to see a variety of birds as well as be able to see the seasons changing through the changing environment
