Special Person Day 2024
In January we invited our tamarikis special people to spend the day with us at Puketaha. Getting to know the extended families in our centre gives us more insight into the culture, traditions, and important relationships of our families.
It was so beautiful to see the children's faces light up when their special people walked through the door! We shared kai and stories and created art and constructions together. The children were able to take the opportunity to be hosts and offer food and drinks.
They relished this sense of responsibility and leadership. Some children who didn't have a special person visit joined in with other aunties, uncles, and grandparents which helped to strengthen friendships across the centre.
Our whanau loved seeing all the photos that were taken and put up on display in the foyer over the last couple of weeks and it was such a nice way for children to revisit this day. There have been lots of korero from the tamariki about their special day, reminiscing about what they did and who they saw.
These photos are now put into their learning portfolios so they can continue to look back on this day. We look forward to making this an ongoing tradition here at BestStart Puketaha.
