Te Awamutu, also known as Rosetown, is home to a colourful and vibrant rose garden. Here at BestStart Te Awamutu we aim to nurture the seeds of our community and what better way to do that than to bring one of our amazing landmarks into our centre. Our tamariki enjoyed the sensory experience the lavender scented playdough and gifts of Mother Nature provided for their learning and creativity. Roses, hydrangeas, ferns, lavender and more, these precious items provided endless learning as our tamariki used their senses to investigate and make sense of their discoveries. Their curiosity was abundant as they shared their discoveries with their peers, learning from one another and further generating and refining their working theories. Through active exploration of these natural items, our tamariki are also fostering their communication and social skills alongside their kaiako and peers. Their curiosity is nurtured through prompting questions and observations made such as colours, smells, textures and similarities. Within their investigation they even offered their peers the chance to smell the roses as they held the flowers close to each other’s faces. Such a calm and engaging experiences for us all to learn with and alongside each other. These experiences and links to our community are reinforced through our centre philosophy as we foster our whanaungatanga with Te Awamutu and the wonders our little community holds.
