Taiopenga Tuwharetoa Kapa Haka Festival
Here at BestStart Abacus, we take pride in our partnership with our whānau and community because we are aware that "Children learn and develop best when their culture, knowledge and community are affirmed and when the people in their lives help them to make connections across settings" as stated in the NZ Early Learning Curriculum, Te Whariki.
This year we were able to take part in the annual Taiopenga Tuwharetoa Kapa Haka Festival. The tamariki, whānau and kaiako worked together tirelessly throughout the past few months in preparation for this event. Our Kapa Haka practices and performance were led by our phenomenal kaea's (leaders) Kuia Hinewai and Uncle Leighton. Their support helped our tamariki and kaiako build up the confidence we needed to express all of our mana out on the stage as we sang our waiatas and performed our haka. Our tamariki love all the waiata we sang and they still sing these at the centre all the time, especially our haka!
Our tamariki, whānau and kaiako all loved being a part of this amazing experience and we are all looking forward to do it all over again next year! Nāu te rourou, nāku te rourou, ka ora ai te iwi. With your food basket and my food basket the people will thrive.
