Kia Ora koutou. It is always great to get out of the center for an excursion and to let the children explore our local environment. We have recently started taking regular excursions to our local park, Anderson Park in Napier.

It is straight across the road from our center. With a focus on being Kaitaiki/ Guardians, we recently found a dead Kingfisher and talked about the type of bird it was and why it might have died.

We left it at the park but took a photo of it. We also had lots of fun collecting natural resources that we took back to the center to share with our friends. It is also great to compare the differences with the wildlife at the park, the last time we went to the park, there were more ducklings, signets, and goslings, they are so cute.

We are lucky that we usually have lots of parent helpers on our excursions. Anderson Park used to be a race track for horses, before the big earthquake of 1931, it had three ponds with steam running through it and a mile track with a playground.
