Te wiki o te reo Māori at BestStart Te Aroha
What an awesome Te wiki o te reo we had. We started the week with creating individual pepeha to be displayed on our wall. Tuesday was Māori design collage and weaving. On Wednesday we sung waiata (mahunaga and kina kina) which was recorded and put on Storypark for whanau to watch and share with their extended whanau. Thursday it was poi and rakau making.
On Friday we made and enjoyed some fry bread, we made enough to share with whanau and our special visitors. Our special visitors were a local school Kapa Haka group who came and performed for us. Once the Kapa Haka group had finished we sung some waiata back, before having a play. It was a awesome week of celebrating Te wiki o te reo.
The tamariki seemed to really enjoy every moment. It was amazing to see the interactions between our tamariki and the Kapa Haka group. Inaa kei te mohio koe ko wai koe, I anga mai koe I hea, kei te mohio koe, kei te anga atu ki hea. If you know who you are and where you are from, then you will know where you are going. Ka pai to mahi Te Aroha!
