Waitangi Day
In the prep school we acknowledged Waitangi Day recently, and what that means for us and being Kiwi. We came together and read a special book about Waitangi Day at mat time and learnt about the signing of the Treaty. We also had a meaningful korero about coming together, supporting one another and working together.
This led into discussions around Protection, Partnership and Participation. In the prep school we protect our environment and our land. We take great pride in respecting, protecting and incorporating Te Reo Māori and Tikanga practices into our programme and ensure we uphold these at all times. We work in partnership with whanau and seek to gain a deeper understanding of each individual child and their background. This helps us as kaiako to know what is important to each family, and how we can create success for every child.
We ensure everyone has the opportunity to participate and no one is ever left out. Whanau have many opportunities to share in our learning programme, and we welcome the knowledge and expertise each person brings. We ensure equity for all Māori learners, and create links in the local community to benefit our tamariki. In the afternoon we then made a special korowai together. Each child had the opportunity to decorate and design their own feather to add to the korowai.
This symbolises each individual child coming together to create something unique for our prep school whanau. We are all connected as one, and all play such an important part within this community.
