Whare kakano Kaitiaki
Here at BestStart Lynmore, we have a special place for our youngest children Whare Kakano/ Seedling Hut. In this space, we build trusting, meaningful relationships with our tamariki and empower them to discover their own limits by allowing them the time and space to learn for themselves.
At BestStart Lynmore we are passionate about providing children with a rich learning environment. We know that being outside and connecting to nature in a green space is good for us: we feel refreshed and energized, but relaxed. This is why, in a time when the hauora (well-being) and mental health of our tamariki are so important, creating an edible garden provides a great resource. Building a connection with te taiao (nature), te whenua, and Papatūānuku (the earth) can help restore any imbalance in your personal wharenui, offering.
Gardening helps connect children with nature and teaches them to be kaitiaki. Through full involvement in garden planning and processes, children learn to respect the garden and environment. He taonga te mokopuna Kia whangaia, kia tipu, kia rea. A child is a treasure to be nurtured, to grow, to flourish, lifelong learner.
