During May and the beginning of June, our centre celebrated Samoan Language Week with our tamariki. Tamariki made a Samoan flag supported by kaiako, learnt a few new Samoan words and sang some Samoan songs.

Samoan families dressed their children in traditional clothes to celebrate the language week. The theme of Samoan Language Week 2024 is 'Tautua i le alofa, manuia le lumana'i – Serve in love for a blessed future'. This fitted in well with our centre philosophy to create a love environment for our tamariki to support their learning and development.

On 12th June, we celebrated the Philippines Independence Day with tamarki, whanau and teachers. Our Filipino teachers guided us through the culture history and traditional food of adobo, which was prepared for both tamariki and kaiako to enjoy. This provided us with a great learning opportunity to experience another culture and its history.

Whanau were very supportive as children came dressed in the colours of the Filipino flag, red, blue yellow or white and there were lots of conversations amongst the older tamariki about why they were wearing a certain colour.

Thank you to our multicultural team for sharing their knowledge.
