Eagle, tree, warrior, hero, sleeping butterfly .... simple words that have a whole new meaning for our Prep room tamariki. After a successful & enjoyable day of yoga over the holidays the children continue to ask for "Yoga Time". A time where the tamariki can choose to calm their bodies and minds alongside their peers & Kaiako. What started with only a few children taking the time to be involved has developed most days into a full room relaxation time.

On warmer days when it's tiring to be outside in the sun, or in times when children are feeling a little overwhelmed there is always the option for them to find comfort and down time with a space for some yoga. Following simple instructions & named poses that as a group we are beginning to recognise.

The children move their bodies into different positions & poses, each respectfully allowing the child to take the time they need to succeed & find comfort in new positions. We have noticed that with time the children are also developing an understanding of how this time with their peers & Kaiako allows them to relax & have a period of calm "chill" time in an otherwise energy filled day.
