How learning at BestStart links to the school curriculum

We use the New Zealand early childhood curriculum, Te Whāriki, which is renowned worldwide as a quality curriculum focused on intentional learning through play.

While play is the way that children naturally learn, ECE teachers nurture knowledge such as literacy and numeracy through playful interactions and the use of language that sets your child up for their further education at school.

Our teachers are intentional about introducing concepts important in reading, writing, maths and science learning, allowing children to explore these ideas in memorable and meaningful ways.

We have developed a video series, hosted by Dr Barbara Backshall, who explains how each of our 16 areas of play links into the early primary school curriculum, and what learning is occurring as children play.
