Whānau information and resources
Starting primary school is a big milestone not just for children but also for parents and whānau! Our Set for School programme is here to support families every step of the way.
At BestStart, we understand that each family has unique hopes, priorities and expectations for their child. At around the time your child turns four, their teacher will begin conversations with you about your aspirations for their transition and how we can best support you and your child through this.
We also help whānau navigate and get familiar with the process of enrolling for primary school, which can feel overwhelming if it’s new to you. Primary schools have different enrolment deadlines, zoning rules and start dates, such as starting on a child’s fifth birthday or at the beginning of a term (called cohort entry). Many of our centres have this information for local schools, but if not they can guide you in finding any additional details you may need.
Our centres also host regular parent meetings to share information on local schools, enrolment steps and what to expect during your child’s transition. We’ll also show you how our play-based curriculum is preparing your child to be set for school!
